Perfectly positioned to access both the Drakensberg and the Maluti Mountains, Karma Backpackers is within easy reach of the Golden Gate and Royal Natal nature reserves.

Overlooking the charming hamlet of Kestell in the Eastern Free State, Karma provides a peaceful setting in which to enjoy a well deserved rest as well as a natural selection of home grown vegetables and home made cheeses, yoghurt, jams, chutneys and other preserves.

We can now accommodate up to 17 people. Of these ten can be divided between two dormitories (four within our spacious house and six in the annex), while three couples may be accommodated in our double rooms, one of which can additionally accept a younger person.

Situated just off the N5, midway between Harrismith and Bethlehem, the town of Kestell celebrated its centenary in 2005. Karma is situated at the top of the road that continues behind the picturesque Dutch Reformed Church building.

If approaching from Clarens or Phuthaditjaba, continue on Blignaut to the end of the tarred surface. Turn left into Piet Retief and proceed to the last house on the right.
